About Spolem

Spolem is a nonsense word I created in middle school to name my Sim City 2000 cities. I'm not sure why but the name stuck in my head and when it came time to register a domain name for my own website, Spolem was it. "Spolem" is apparently some kind of Polish word for workers co-operative, however, most of the other Spolem domains were taken. Despite the fact that I am not really a "network", I took Spolem.net and that's how you ended up here.
About Jake

In case you're interested, I'm a thirty-something who's been into computers and video games almost before I could read. I've lived in 4 states, driven through 15 others and spent spring break 2001 in Mazatlan, Mexico. I spent over 4 years and $30,000 at Iowa State University teaching, learning and graduating with a BS in computer science. My income is currently generated by working as a Senior Systems Administrator for the Air Force Weather Agency.
I'm married to a hot little redhead whom I love more than she'll ever know. In 2003, we spawned a son who's halfway through first grade and continues to surprise me at every step. I have given a great deal of money to a certain Japanese video game company in exchange for a role in the many adventures of a fat plumber and a pointy eared hero. I also engage in armed combat with some very nice people. In addition, I frequently travel to the 23rd and 24th centuries, solve homicides in New York City and learn to cook food in weird ways. Recently, I've discovered extraordinary abilities as well as the many uses for the sonic screwdriver. Other hobbies (obsessions) include continual improvements in this site, buying high priced bags of popcorn, taste testing new pops and cereals, and just trying to keep my token away from the other players' hotels.
There's not much more to the story other than that. As a point of pride/ego, with the exception of Squirrelmail and the origin of most Splog images, everything you see on this site was created by my own 10 digits. If you have anything to say about my website or past indiscretions, please drop me a line. I'd appreciate the contact.
