Moore Truth
Last Friday I dragged my wife to the only theater in town showing Fahrenheit 9/11. We drove to the other side of Omaha thinking this would be a rather dull movie viewing. Dull it wasn't.We drove past the Barnes and Noble across the street from the theater. There we saw a handful of "protesters" causing a ruckus on the corner of the bookstore's property. They held crudely drawn signs and were verbally abusing cars as they drove towards the theater. I didn't hear what was being said but one guy did and approached the kids, who didn't look older than 18. They began a "spirited debated" as we parked near the theater. After the movie, of course, the protesters were missing probably due to B&N's not wanting their wails driving away customers.
Inside the theater, we collected our tickets and was pointed out to our theater by the ticket-dude. Actually we were directed to a line of 40-50 people already waiting to get inside. We didn't wait long, however, as the theater staff soon granted us access. After seating my wife, I made the traditional snack run and prepared for what I thought was going to be a normal, quiet enjoyable movie. It turns out it was only enjoyable.
The theater was the largest one in the 24-plex and was completely full before the unavoidable movie commercials (check out that link). Soon a guy began passing out "John Kerry for President" stickers to anyone who wanted them...which was pretty much everyone.
Judging by the frequent applause and cheering throughout the movie, I doubt anyone with a ticket stub would have checked "Republican" on any ballot. Honestly, I didn't expect any different, as the movie did nothing but rag on G.W.Bush and his cronies. The movie itself was only about 85% as entertaining as Bowling for Columbine but still 100% editorial. It was quite a dark movie as filmmaker Michael Moore used the entire two hours to paint a grim and disturbing picture on the Bushes, their money, and the fraudulent and deadly decisions leading to the war in Iraq.
Was the film good? Yes. Will Michael win another Oscar? Maybe. Will it affect the next presidential election? Doubtful. The people who went to see this film are already against Bush or are undecided and willing to listen. People who are already mislead into voting for the evil, corrupt, ineffectual, little lackwit will not see the dead babies, the dead soldiers, and grieving mothers that are a direct result of that man's actions. Ironically, this very film is a direct result of G.W.'s actions.
Actions that will probably result in Iraqi civil war, increased terrorist attack, and the deaths of hundreds more US military.
