PG-13: Strong Language
Tomorrow begins another 4 years of rule by GeeDubya and The Nitwits (that's my name for them, not JibJab's). I apologize for the graphic text on your left but I feel it is warranted given the circumstances. It seems like not too long ago people like me had hope he would be booted out of the White House instead of firmly planted there. Apathy is a pretty good word for my emotions but I think "aw jeez" captures the feeling just as well. I do have hope, however. Hope that four more years of war won't result in a future as grim as the one depicted in Terminator 2.As you can see below, time is marching towards the day I will have my very own dwelling structure. Electrical devices are being installed today while it's just occurred to me the several inches of snow and ice on the driveway, overlooked by the construction crew, may impede our moving of furniture and beloved knick-knacks. That's nothing a nifty new snow shovel can't fix! Shoveling the snow (and the accompanying back pain) will prove a rewarding challenge for this new homeowner.
World of Warcraft is a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) which was released in November. I bought a copy in December and have been pretty hooked. My level 15 rouge, named Skylyn, has traversed a small fraction of the world while having her butt easily handed to her by the native creatures. Despite spending a whole lot of time walking to my corpse from the nearest graveyard, I have been disappointed in nothing other than the difficulty of finding a group of players to play with repeatedly.Unlike probably most of the players of the game, I am more of a casual gamer. During my college days, I played games a lot. Whole weekends were waged in the pits of hell (Diablo, Diablo II) and the far reaches of the galaxy (StarCraft, Quake). An entire afternoon would be spent killing soldiers (Half Life/Team Fortress) or collecting Rupees (Zelda 5). Friends were easily rounded up to race (Mario Kart 64), shoot (Goldeneye 64) and fight (Mortal Kombat 4, Super Smash Bros) each other on an almost daily basis.
Ever since my college days ended, the time left to game and the number of competitors has dwindled. Whole Metroids have gone unbeaten while many of Hyrule's magical items have remained in their chests.
Where I'm going with this is most RPGs are about a group of people, and so is WoW, but it's hard to do that here if everyone in it isn't online at the same time. The game is fun by yourself but I bet it's hella-dictive if you have a regular party.
(My wife brought to my attention a number of spelling errors in this post. I'm embarrassed if any of my loyal viewers now think less of me now.)
