Pac-Man is supposed to turn the big two-five
this month. A little less than 25 years ago, the little yellow guy took
arcade games from bright white lines to bright white dots. Along with his
wife and son, Pac-Man's game play is timeless. You can find a standup or
cocktail machine in almost any pizza parlor, bar, or airport and spend a quarter
in a vain attempt to out run 4 nasty ghosts. Congrats!
Another round thing
in video games is the announcement that the Super Mario Bros. Super Show is going
to DVD in October. In the days when Super Mario Bros. 2 was brand new,
this show filled the airwaves with campy animation and sound effects lifted
stright from your NES. I have most of the episodes on 3 VHS tapes and
without the rosy glasses of childhood, the show seems silly. But, like the
original TMNT cartoon and the original Masters of the
Universe, it won't stop me from picking them out of the bin at the DVD
superstore.
