The Faded Frontier
I was just visiting startrek.com and it made me sad. The latest movie was a pretty big success in rewriting everything that made Star Trek important to those of us who knew it beforehand (i.e., Trekkies). I will look forward to the sequel whenever it is made, however, I miss the "old" ones.
You can hardly find Star Trek on TV anymore. The last episode of Enterprise aired more than four years ago and that wasn't even really watchable. Lately, I've seen "collectors packs" of DVDs containing the "best of so-and-so" episodes like some kind of sad attempt to scrounge a few more bucks out of devoted fans. Startrek.com was "shutdown" in 2007 after years of reporting on which cast member was going to be an extra in Law & Order or something.
Anyway, I have good memories of watching episodes of The Original Series and anxiously awaiting new ones from The Next Generation. Deep Space Nine proved to be a great series with time and Voyager held so much promise before they started casting professional wrestlers. I know the series were campy and silly sometimes (most of the times) but these ships and characters became important to me. The plots and cliffhangers memorable and with the "franchise" pretty much DOA, those memories seem...old...and so am I, I guess.
